Samsung wants to block Apple from selling the iPhone 4S in Italy and France

Friday, October 7, 2011

The patent war between Apple and Samsung has entered a new chapter now, after the Cupertino company officially unveiled the iPhone 4S.

Following the new iPhone announcement, Samsung has declared that it would “file separate preliminary injunction motions” in France and Italy, “requesting the courts block the sale of Apple's iPhone 4S in the respective markets.”

According to Samsung, the new iOS handset infringes two of its patents related to WCDMA 3G standards and, thus, the South Korean company “believes that Apple's violation is being too severe and that the iPhone 4S should be barred from sales.”

Samsung says it plans to file preliminary injunctions against Apple in other countries, too, after further reviewing the situation.

While I've no idea how this will turn out, it's certain that Apple intends to launch the iPhone 4S on October 14 in the US, Canada, the UK, Germany, France, Japan, and Australia. The new smartphone should reach other markets (Italy included) later this month.

The iPhone 4S (pictured above) looks just like the iPhone 4, but it comes with upgraded internals and software, including a dual-core A5 processor, dual-mode CDMA and GSM connectivity, 8MP camera with 1080p video recording, and Siri voice recognition.
