iPhone 5 Screen Protector Leaks In Pictures, Suggests Larger Display & Exterior!

In a report by Unwire.hk, the alleged iPhone 5 screen protector was introduced to the world. The evidence, as you'd expect, is a blurry picture. Yet, it is neat enough to draw an inference, making it even easier to extrapolate (from the appearance of it) that the iPhone 5 is a bigger device.

Bigger in terms of screen size, and the external casing (see pictures after the break). It also seems to have an elongated home button, as one of the previous reports had suggested. A few parties have already claimed to have acquired iPhone 5 cases even as the device itself hasn't been announced yet, officially.

Sagely, one of the captured pictures shows an iPhone 4 placed with its face-down on the screen protector for iPhone 5. The difference in sizes is immediately noticeable. The screen guard can still be seen easily extending margins across the borders of the iPhone 4. Certainly, the next iPhone seems to have a larger edge-to-edge display, if these pictures are in anyway legitimate.

Unfortunately, there are no pictures of the device itself. Not any official pictures, at least.  Nevertheless, the leaked pictures of the alleged iPhone 5 screen guard already seem to speak a volume, and we will manage to comfort ourselves with the concept renders in the meanwhile.

As far as the rest of the iPhone 5 tech specs are concerned, you are most likely to see a faster dual-core processor, enhanced camera sensor, faster and newer OS, increased RAM storage, and much more.

It is worth noting that the leaked details may or may not be accurate. Regardless, Apple has been numb on this subject, as always. However, there have been strong indications that the next-generation iPhone is launching around mid-October.

Apple Might Announce The Next iPhone(s) On 7th October!

The report about the iPhone 5 US launch comes courtesy of The New York Times, which claims that a "fairly different" iPhone may launch imminently. In fact, according to them, the much-hyped iPhone 5 launch is "just weeks away".

Citing an anonymous Apple employee as the source, NYT reported that the next iPhone may actually launch on October 7. Chances of Apple launching two different iPhones are fairly strong. It is quite (seemingly) possible that a revamped version of iPhone 4 will also be introduced alongside the much-anticipated all-new iPhone, believed to known as iPhone 5.

While the former is possibly aimed at popularizing the iPhone in the budget-phone sector by cutting down the cost (while presumably maintaining the same specs as iPhone 4), the latter will be a relatively expensive model with bumped up specs, all-new aesthetics and an even more enticing specs sheet.

Apple snubs Samsung, looks to TSMC for next-gen iPhone and iPad chips

Apple will favor Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company over Samsung to power its next-generation iOS devices, DigiTimes said on Friday. The report aligns with an earlier Reuters report that suggested TSMC would build the next-generation A5 processor for future iPhone and iPad devices. TSMC will use its 20nm and 28nm technologies to create the new chips but may not begin supplying Apple with parts until next year. The Taiwan-based chip builder may have inked a deal to supply the successor to the A6 chip, too. Earlier reports suggested TSMC already started to test its first batch of A6 chipsets, which may offer dual or quad-core ARM-based architectures. Prior to its agreement with TSMC, Apple typically gave Samsung exclusive orders for its silicon. The move could be tied to multiple ongoing patent lawsuits with the South Korea-based electronics giant.

Sprint to offer iPhone 5 in October with unlimited data

Sprint will offer the iPhone 5 in mid-October and will bundle it with an unlimited data plan, Bloomberg reported on Friday. The carrier hopes its unlimited data plan offering will attract customers away from AT&T and Verizon Wireless, which both cap iPhone data packages. Sprint currently offers all-you-can eat data and voice plans and its Everything Data plan starts out at $69.99 per month with 450 peak minutes. “The advantage of unlimited is, it's cheaper for the big users,” Bank of Montreal analyst Peter Rhamey explained to Bloomberg, noting that unlimited plans are attractive because “people don't like bill shock.” Bloomberg's report is on a par with a recent Wall Street Journal article that also suggested Sprint will begin selling the iPhone 5 in October. In addition, BGR exclusively reported that Best Buy is anticipating selling a Sprint-branded iPhone 5 and that pre-orders should begin soon.

All-hands day at T-Mobile likely doesn't signal iPhone 5 launch

An all-hands day has reportedly been called for nationwide T-Mobile stores on September 24th. As per a purported internal memo obtained by TmoNews, T-Mobile corporate has instructed managers to “plan for increased store business and maximum floor coverage on Saturday September 24.” Initial speculation suggested the memo may involve the iPhone 5, but that seems highly unlikely. First and foremost, some reports refer to the all-hands day as a meeting where employees may be preparing for an iPhone launch, however the memo instead refers to it as a high-volume day for T-Mobile retail stores. The launch of Apple's iPhone 5 would certainly pull in high volumes of foot traffic, of course, but it is not expected to be released until early to mid-October. Moreover, it's safe to say T-Mobile is expecting more than one single day of high-volume retail traffic if and when it launches the iPhone 5, and the handset will likely launch ahead of the weekend when it finally does hit store shelves. We're not sure what T-Mobile has in store for the 24th, but odds are definitely not in the fifth-generation iPhone's favor.

Deutsche Telekom starts taking pre-orders for iPhone 5

Rumors of the iPhone 5 launching in October are starting to get serious. Originally rumored for a September, it seems that October is looking more and more likely. Earlier today we reported that a Best Buy leak suggested a 21st of October release, and now it looks like Deutsche Telekom is also thinking along the same lines.

If you're living in Germany and you want to get your hands on the iPhone 5, the good news is that you can now pre-order the device from Deutsche Telekom. While it seems unlikely that Deutche Telekom knows something that the rest of the world doesn't, their reasoning behind taking pre-orders right now is to reduce the bottleneck and make the overall process smoother when the iPhone 5 does come out.

We're assuming that Deutsche Telekom has been subscribing to the same rumors and speculations that the rest of us have, although for all we know there is the off chance that they might know something we don't. Either way if you're in Germany and you dead set on getting the iPhone 5, you can start pre-ordering your device now, although as to when you can expect to get your hands on it remains to be seen!

Apple and SFPD cooperating to locate missing iPhone prototype

Remember the missing iPhone 5 prototype that supposedly went missing at a bar? Well, we received word that Apple investigators impersonated San Francisco police officers in their own effort to track down the missing prototype, which could be a serious crime if it was true. Well, hopefully all's well that ends well, with the SFPD having admitted to cooperating with Apple in order to find the still missing prototype.

The SFPD has gone even further by issuing an official statement regarding their involvement in the case, where half a dozen folks appeared at the doorstep of Bay Area resident Sergio Calderón. According to police department representatives, they did not know anything about the incident previously, and there was no police report filed. Below is an except of the official statement.

After speaking with Apple representatives, we were given information which helped us determine what occurred. It was discovered that Apple employees called Mission Police station directly, wanting assistance in tracking down a lost item. Apple had tracked the lost item to a house located in the 500 block of Anderson Street. Because the address was in the Ingleside Police district Apple employees were referred to Officers in the Ingleside district. Four SFPD Officers accompanied Apple employees to the Anderson street home. The two Apple employees met with the resident and then went into the house to look for the lost item. The Apple employees did not find the lost item and left the house.

The Apple employees did not want to make an official report of the lost item.

Sprint installing cellular repeaters in Apple Stores for the iPhone 5?

With each week that goes by, we seem to have more and more reports about the iPhone 5 arriving on Sprint's network this time around. Last week there were reports about the prices increasing for the early termination fee and upgrade fee for Sprint, and now it has been reported that the carrier has started installing signal boosting equipment in Apple Stores around the country.

There have been many rumors about a Sprint iPhone previously, starting with a report from the Wall Street Journal that helped to fuel a lot of them. However, even Sprint employees were just told to keep quiet about these rumors previously, so the reports of Sprint signal boosters seem to suggest that the phone will finally be arriving on the CDMA network - all we need is an official announcement from Apple. It's going to be an interesting couple of months. Who's excited for a Sprint iPhone?
